Biology encompasses many different aspects of our world. Those who study biology must love all aspects even when they choose only one fragment to work under. Biology positions that you may find include marine biology, general biology, ecology, chemistry, physics, and many more. You will learn about aerobic and anaerobic life forms while studying the aspects that you are truly interested in. Perhaps the most popular career chosen in biology today is marine biology. We are fascinated by the underwater world that has been little explored. Until recently we did not have the equipment to study the underwater world in depth. We still have trouble reaching some of the deepest parts of the ocean. There are marine animals in the ocean we barely know exist, such as the Giant Squid.
When you study marine biology you will find many sub categories from invertebrates, vertebrates, marine mammals, and ecology. You will also have to study chemistry, physics, and mathematics to understand the data you collect as well as the samples you may collect. Marine biology can also encompass marine archaeology, which is the study of our oceans history. Many marine archaeologists are also hunters of lost wrecks whether they belong to a government program or are privately owned.
If you are interested in marine biology you may still find yourself interested in obtaining a bachelor’s of science in general biology. As a career choice the more knowledge you have in biology the more options you will have. There are a great many universities you may attend around the world to obtain a biology degree. Starting in the United States you have Duke University in North Carolina, Stanford University in California, and the University of Alaska. In the UK you will have the University of York and the University of Plymouth. While this is not a complete list you have many options for your biology degree wherever you wish to go.
Biology is a demanding career choice. You will spend hours studying the material, creating reports, and researching. When you undertake a career in biology it is often necessary to put your life on hold to work hard. You will take classes in ecology, evolution, and genetics. Often the first year of your degree is spent learning more details about information you learned previously. You will also find you have lab classes where you will collect specimens from near by areas to study. Biology is in everyday life and gives us an understanding of how we function and how the world functions.
